Mara & Mine drew inspiration from the Isle of Capri. Capri is home to many shoe makers, incredible beach clubs, restaurants, shoe makers and more shoe makers. It is also a holiday destination that is favored by the most glamorous, fashionista crowd. One name that springs to mind is Jackie Kennedy Onassis or well known as Jackie O.
Jackie would return to Capri every summer to enjoy walking the narrow streets, sitting in Capri’s world famous square enjoying a freshly squeezed lemonade and most importantly having her very own Capri sandals made. Another attraction of Capri is having the luxury of designing your very own style of sandals and watch them be made right in front of your eyes. The photo below is of Jackie admiring local Capri sandals. This art is still available for holiday makers today.
Jackie Kennedy has had many photos taken with the shoemakers and trying on sandals and took Capri sandals to a worldwide trend. The traditional Capri sandal is in fact almost flat just like Mara & Mine. These sandals have to take on the harsh conditions of Capri’s cobble stone steep and slippery walkways and seemingly endless stairs.
I was recently there soaking up the sun and enjoying the many beautiful aspects Capri has to offer. This picture was taken at my favourite lunch spot in Capri: La Fontalina. Notice the distinct striped beach chairs and umbrellas.. Could this be a preview of a Mara & Mine printed shoe for Spring 2014?!
